Five of our u16 boys have been included in the Northern Zone teams which go to WP trials on 3 May and 10 May. Liam Golding and Jannes Strydom have been selected to the A side a.k.a. Northern Eagles. Nathan Buttner, Marco Fourie and Japie Venter are in the Northern Zone B side a.k.a. Northern Hawks.

u19A match results
The u19A team played a match against Edgemead on Saturday, 18 April,in front of WP selectors. They beat Edgemead 1-0. Three of our boys have been selected for the second round of trials which take place on Sunday, 26 April. The boys are: Dean-Michael Goosen, Jacques Marais and Mikhail Swartz. Well done and good luck. We're proud of you!

Maties Clinic - u19A boys' comments
The Maties Hockey Camp was an awesome experience from start to finish!
From waking up at 6 30 in the mornings to going to bed after initiating the "freshies", we had full-time fun! The warm-up and training sessions in the mornings were inventive and helpful, especially to help us get used to grass hockey. The matches were very eventful, with glory goals, amazing shots, full stretch saves, deadly passes, huge overheads, and, of course, crushing defence! All these things contributed to our ending at the top of our pool and on our way to the final!
It is sad that we lost in the final, but Point deserved it as they have worked extremely hard over the past few years.
The tour helped me to realise just how fortunate we are to be at a school like Stellenberg. Simply the fact that we had to play on grass was a major adjustment! I think that we stand a good chance this season, and we all want to make the school proud.
I would like to thank all the coaches, teachers, parents, and players who made this tour possible. Without their support we would never have come second!

u14 Boys' Hockey Tournament
The u14A boys’ hockey team took part in the annual DF Malan tournament on 6 and 7 April.
Day 1 – at Oude Molen Astro
After 2 short weeks of training the boys hit the ground running, with brilliant displays against Parow and Mikro. They won 4-0 and 2-0 respectively. The boys played a nice passing game of hockey. The game against Durbanville was a little different and the boys didn’t seem to fire in that game. A costly mistake at the back lost us that one 1-0.
Day 2 – at Bellville Astro
After a good nights rest we got together at the Belllville Astro at 7:30 am for our first game against Settlers. I asked for more effort in this game and I got it by the bucket loads. We dominated the game with great interplay and swift passing moves. Anyone who was watching would agree. Our finishing let us down in this one as just we could not convert even one of our many chances. One short corner against us and we were punished with a 1-0 loss. The second game against DF Malan was a great game to watch with both teams playing good hockey. DF scored the only goal of the game and we went down 1-0. I thought a draw would have been a fair result, but well done to DF. The last game was at 4o'clock and this one was against Paul Gym. It was an awesome performance and great effort from all the players gave us a well-deserved draw.
All in all I learned a lot about the boys during this tournament and I am very positive for the season ahead. I am lucky to have a great bunch of boys and skilful players. The morale in the team is good and that after being a team for only a short while.

Calvin Siderfin: u14A
Calvin played WP Schools Hockey in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004. He captained the first team in 2003 and 2004, and played first team hockey from Grade 9. He won “Player of the Year “ in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. He also played for Durbanville first side in the top league. He also played for a club in Rome, Italy, where he was kept on as a paid player. He coached Stellenberg u16 and u14 boys previously, and coached a young team in Rome, and in the UK for a short while.
Sebastiaan Barnard: u14B
Sebastiaan matriculated from Stellenberg last year. He played first team hockey from 2006 - 2008 and was vice-captain 2008. He played in the WP team in 2007 and 2008. He also received the “Player of the Year” award in 2007 and 2008.
Chris Olckers: u19B
Chris played for WP u14 and u16. He played for Wynberg Boys’ first team from Gr. 10 to Matric. He played for the first team at FHHC. He has won the title “Player of the Year” and “Player of the Tournament”. He is currently a member of the Maties Hockey Club. He has coached at hockey camps and various teams at Wynberg Boys’ High.
Our coaches remain people who are passionate about the game AND good at it. Welcome!
